Alex Wessely joined Latin Routes nearly two years ago after studying Latin American Studies at Newcastle University. He loves using his knowledge and passion for Latin America to help people discover the region’s wonders.
Having visited almost all Latin American countries, Alex specialises in Central America and Argentina. He spent a month in Rio studying Portuguese and has done charity work in Ecuador and Guatemala, giving him firsthand insight into the culture and destinations he loves.
Alex’s favourite destination is Argentina, with its diverse landscapes from Patagonia to Iguazu Falls and vibrant Buenos Aires. He has travelled to 68 countries, with Eastern Europe; especially Albania, Ukraine, and Georgia; among his top non-Latin American experiences. His motto is: “Travel isn’t just about visiting a country; it’s immersing yourself in its culture and people.” Outside work, he’s a passionate Sunderland football fan and has a quirky talent for demolishing large garlic dips in under a minute!
