10 Days of Enriching Culture and Seafront Joy
This 10-day journey links the cultural energy of Buenos Aires with the historic cities and Atlantic coastline of Uruguay. Beginning in Argentina’s capital, time is spent soaking up the atmosphere of its tango-filled streets before crossing the Río de la Plata to explore a country defined by relaxed rhythms, strong traditions and a rich architectural heritage.
In Uruguay, the itinerary focuses on its most characterful landmarks. In Colonia del Sacramento, cobbled streets and colonial buildings reveal why the city holds UNESCO World Heritage status. The journey continues to Montevideo, where art deco and neoclassical architecture sit alongside lively markets and waterfront promenades. Visits to local wineries offer the chance to taste Uruguay’s signature Tannat wine and learn about the country’s growing wine culture.
The pace then softens on the Atlantic coast at Punta del Este, where sandy beaches and coastal scenery provide time to unwind. For those travelling in January or February, the journey may coincide with Uruguay’s vibrant Carnaval. Celebrations bring the streets to life with music and dance, including candombe, a tradition with roots in African heritage that adds an extra cultural layer to this varied and engaging itinerary.
