The city of Valparaiso, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is perched on the edge of a steep hill that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. An enchanting place with its steep funicular railways and where there is a striking contrast between the brightly coloured tin houses that line the narrow streets of the hillside and the Victorian mansions down by the port..
Now home to many artisans, this once thriving port town is an enchanting place with a bohemian feel where you can wander the lively seaport market of Muelle Prat and the array of restaurants and bars, and explore its churches, museums and colonial buildings.
Works perfectly as either a day trip from Santiago but also offer plenty of attractions to enjoy over a few days. Santiago is a 2 hour drive from the chity and is also the closest airport. The city is compact and ideal for walking around however you will find the hills can be steep with plenty of steps. However you can always catch one of the unique funiculars to help you up.
You can visit Valparaiso all year round. In summer (Nov - Feb) temperatures can reach 28°C. While temperatures are much cooler in winter you can still enjoy most of teh cities attractions.
