Admire Formidable Wildlife in the Falkland Islands
This 12-day journey focuses on the remarkable wildlife and landscapes of the Falkland Islands, a destination defined by wide-open spaces and rich biodiversity. With hundreds of bird species recorded and thriving marine life along its shores, the islands offer some of the most rewarding wildlife encounters in the South Atlantic, set within an environment that feels remote, unspoilt and deeply connected to nature.
Wildlife experiences are central throughout the itinerary. The Falklands are home to vast penguin populations, including king, gentoo, rockhopper, macaroni and Magellanic penguins, alongside breeding colonies of seabirds found nowhere else in the region. Encounters also include seals, whales and dolphins, often seen against dramatic coastal backdrops that heighten the sense of place and scale.
Alongside its wildlife, the journey showcases the islands’ striking scenery. Visits to places such as Devil’s Nose reveal rugged headlands and rocky promontories shaped by wind and sea, while Carcass Island offers softer landscapes rich in birdlife. Together, these experiences create a balanced holiday that combines wildlife observation with time to appreciate the Falkland Islands’ distinctive landscapes and quiet beauty.

Quick Itinerary
Wildlife in Falkland Islands 12-day Itinerary
Days 1-2 UK - Santiago, Chile
Today you will depart the UK on your international flight to Santiago, Chile, where you'll spend the next day. Explore the city on a half-day tour and discover traditions that coexist with modern, city life.

Day 3 Stanley, Falklands
Your flight will arrive at Mount Pleasant International Airport where you will be met and greeted by a Falklands Islands representative, and then transferred to your hotel in Stanley, where the rest of your time is free to explore.

Days 4-5 Saunders Island
You will travel by plane to Saunders Island where you will be transferred to your accommodation. Saunders Island was where the British first settled in 1765 and while here you can immerse yourself and meet the locals at your own pace. The island offers diverse wildlife, you will find four different types of penguin (Gentoo, rockhoppers, Magellanic and king penguin), as well as elephant seals, colonies of albatross, and even whales blowing out at sea.

Days 6-7 Carcass Island
You will take an internal flight to Carcass Island, named after HMS Carcass which visited in the late 18th century, with a young Horatio Nelson onboard. No predators have been introduced to the islands and so the wildlife here can be found in abundance. A gentoo penguin colony can be found a short walk from the settlement, and you may also see striated caracara, king cormorants and the endemic Cobb’s wren. To the north of the island, visit Leopard Beach to see Magellanic and gentoo penguins, elsewhere on the island you may spot elephant seals, long-tailed meadowlarks, black-chinned siskins, night herons or king cormorants. Carcass Island is a haven for birdwatchers.

Day 8 Stanley
A plane will bring you to Stanley, the capital of the Falklands. You will have the day for yourself to explore the colourful city where the majority of Falkland Islanders live. War memorials and monuments stand testament to the soldiers who fought to keep the Falklands British. There is plenty to do in Stanley and its size makes it easy to explore it by foot. Some highlights include the Historic Dockyard Museum, the Anglican cathedral and the iconic whalebone arch.

Day 9 Volunteer Point
Today the guide will drive to Volunteer Point. You will arrive on the beach where you will have the opportunity to see the largest colony of king penguins. Other locations and battle sites are available, should you wish to discover and visit them.

Days 10-12 Mount Pleasant - Santiago - UK
Transfer to Mount Pleasant International Airport for your onward flight to Santiago, Chile. The following day transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, landing back on day 12.
