Climb a Volcano

Head south from Quito and you will reach volcano alley home to some of the most dramatic volcanic scenery in the world. The famous Cotopaxi Volcano recently erupted showing this area is quiet, but not dormant! Accompanied by one of expert guides some of the best views of the region can be found when you head up and climbing one of Ecuador’s volcanoes is an enormously rewarding achievement both personally and for the views at the top.

Take A Train Up The Devils Nose

There are few more exciting rail journeys in the world than Ecuador’s famous Devils Nose Train. A single railway line heads up this dramatic mountain side which is so steep that the train has to go back and forth up the hillside. The journey offers some amazing views over the region and whether you are a rail enthusiast or not, you can’t help but be impressed by the amazing feet of engineering.

Galapagos Islands

Located 900km off the coast of Ecuador mainland is the unique archipelago of volcanic islands called the Galapagos Islands. Home to an incredibly unique eco system, the Galapagos Islands allows you to be amongst some of the most unique species of animals and birds in the world. Head 2 ½ hours north of Quito and you will discover Ecuador’s cloud forest and area that is very famous for unique views and amazing birds. Cuenca

Cuenca is a fascinating colonial city full of charm and character - so much so it has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A little more intimate and charming than its rival Quito, a visit to Cuenca will be well rewarded with an abundance of handicrafts, flowers and souvenirs from the cities endless boutiques and markets. For the evening you will also find some of Ecuador’s best restaurants here too.


Banos

Adventures lovers should head to Banos in the heart of Ecuador’s “Volcano Alley.” Here the attractive village offers some great views of the surrounding area but here you will find any number of adventure activities including white water rafting, tubing, kayaking, walking and mountain biking. Stay a day or spend the week, there is so much to do in this great place.


Quito

Quito is a big and bustling city and full of great attractions and Ecuadorian spirit. The historic district is full of charm and has UNESCO World Heritage status. Here you will find a wealth of beautiful churches and cathedrals to explore along with interesting museums and art galleries. For the evening you can head over to the lively La Mariscal district which is home to restaurants and bars frequented by locals as well as travellers from across the world.


Amazon Rainforest

Fly to the town of Coca and you will find here the gateway to the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador. It is argued that Ecuador is the best place for wildlife in the whole of the Amazon Rainforest and it is certainly home to an abundance of birds, monkeys, caiman and more. SS Mary Ann, Galapagos

Galapagos

Dry Season (Jun - Dec): During the dry season the southern trade winds bring the colder Humboldt Current to the Galapagos which means that the seas can be a little cooler. Howevver the weather is generally dry with sunny skies and the odd shower during the day. Average temperatures of around 28°C.

Warm Season (Jan - May): During the warm season the climate is more tropical with more frequent rain and cloudier skies. However the ocean temperature is warmer for swimming and snorkeling. Average temperatures of around 22°C.


Quito

Summer (May - Oct): Weather during the summer months are slight warmer with an average of 20°C. Days tend to be clearer, sunny and great for sightseeing, though periods of mixed weather are possible, particularly in the afternoons.

Winter (Nov- Apr): Weather during the winter months are cooler with an average of 14°C and periods of more mixed weather are possible. However it is still a good time to visit as attractions are quieter.


Avenue of the Volcanoes (Cotopaxi, Banos, Cuenca)

Summer (May- Oct): Weather during the summers is generally warmer with average temperatures of around 18°C, however the temperature is effected by your altitude in the valley. Periods of mixed weather are possilbe.

Winter (Nov - Apr): Weather during the winter months is cooler with averages of around 12°C, however the temperature is effected by your altitude in the valley. Weather is more mixed during the winter months.


Amazon Rainforest

Dry (May - Oct): Average temperatures around 23°C - 30°C. Weather tends to be fairly settled during this time and quite humid.

Wet (Nov - Apr): Slightly higher average temperatures around 26°C - 32°C. Wet season does often mean unsettled weather with some periods of rain and higher humidity.
