Highlights of El Salvador 9 -Day Itinerary
Days 1-2 UK - San Salvador
Fly from the UK to San Salvador, where a private transfer will take you to your hotel in the city. The next morning explore the city’s historic centre on a private tour, then discover El Boqueron National Park, the site of the Loma Caldera eruption which buried the ancient village of Joya de Ceren.


Day 3 Cerro Verde - Concepción de Ataco
In the morning, transfer from San Salvador to Cerro Verde National Park, a trio of volcanos called Izalco, Santa Ana and Cerro Verde. The area is rich in biodiversity and visitors can wander through the towering 300 year-old trees that are home to many types of hummingbirds, toucans and orchids. Continue to the mountains of the Ruta de las Flores, famous for its abundance of wild growing flowers. This region has beautiful panoramic views of the mountain-side coffee plantations, lagoons and dense cloud forests. Arrive at the hotel in Ataco.


Day 4 Ruta de las Flores
Ataco is small highland coffee village with friendly locals, an eternal spring climate and streets adorned with colourful murals. Discover the beautiful streets of Ataco then head to the small town of Nahuizalco for a coffee process tour at one of the biggest coffee farms in the area. Next, visit Los Ausoles, a group of hot springs and geo-thermal activity.


Day 5 Santa Ana
This morning, visit Tazumal Archaeological Park, the most impressive and important Mayan site in El Salvador. Visitors can see ceremonial architecture, tombs, minor pyramids and various excavated ritual items. After lunch beside Lake Coatepeque, continue to Santa Ana for a walking tour of the city.


Days 6-7 Suchitoto
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site Joya de Ceren, known as the Pompeii of Central America, this ancient village was buried by ash from nearby volcanic eruptions. Then explore the cobbled streets of the colonial town of Suchitoto, where a walking tour reveals its secrets. The following day, visit Pájaro Flor, a cooperative uniting female artisans from various communities. Established after the civil war, its seamstresses create garments dyed with indigo, a vibrant blue pigment extracted from the leaves of the xiquilite plant, used since ancient Maya times. The experience includes learning about the history of indigo, the story of the cooperative, and the opportunity to try hands-on scarf making.


Days 8-9 Depart Suchitoto - UK
Transfer back to San Salvador airport to connect with your onward flight to the UK.
