Experience the Rich Winery Culture in Uruguay
Uruguay may be Latin America’s smallest wine producing nation, yet it has earned international recognition for its characterful vintages, particularly tannat, the country’s signature grape. Shaped by Atlantic influences and rolling hills well suited to viticulture, the landscape creates ideal conditions for boutique wine production. Across the country, family run bodegas focus on sustainable practices and small batch methods, crafting wines that reflect both place and personality.
Boutique Wineries of Uruguay invites you to explore this emerging wine scene in depth, combining intimate stays with immersive tasting experiences. Begin in Montevideo at Pizzorno Wine Lodge, where tradition and innovation come together on a family estate. Continue west to Carmelo for two nights at Narbona Wine Lodge, one of Uruguay’s oldest wineries, known for its understated elegance and exceptional vintages. Discover Colonia del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in history and character, before heading to the Carapé Mountains and the striking Sacromonte Landscape Hotel, surrounded by vineyards and open countryside. Along the way, enjoy curated tastings and leisurely lunches at leading bodegas including Bouza and Garzón, the latter home to Francis Mallmann’s renowned restaurant.
Your journey concludes in Punta del Este, Uruguay’s sophisticated coastal retreat, where broad beaches and a lively culinary scene provide a fitting finale. Blending culture, landscape and thoughtfully crafted wines, Boutique Wineries of Uruguay offers a refined and immersive introduction to one of Latin America’s most compelling wine destinations.

Quick Itinerary
Boutique Wineries of Uruguay 11-day Itinerary
Day 1-2 UK - Montevideo
Depart the UK on your international flight to Montevideo, where private transfer will whisk you to Pizzorno Wine Lodge, just 20 km from the city. This family-run estate, steeped in four generations of winemaking tradition, offers a tranquil retreat amid rolling vineyards. Combining artisanal methods with modern techniques, Pizzorno produces exceptional wines from hand-harvested grapes aged in premium oak barrels.

Days 3-4 Carmelo
After breakfast at Pizzorno Wine Lodge, enjoy time to explore the vineyards before transferring west to Carmelo for two nights at Narbona Wine Lodge, one of Uruguay’s oldest wineries. Established in 1909, Narbona produces exceptional wines from tannat, pinot noir, petit verdot, viognier, and syrah grapes, which you can sample over lunch or dinner in its cosy restaurant. The restored lodge offers just five exclusive rooms with private balconies overlooking the vineyard or winery, original features, and log burners. The estate also makes its own milk, dulce de leche, and award-winning cheeses. Visit between February and mid-March to join the hand-harvest grape picking.

Days 5 Colonia del Sacramento
Depart Narbona and transfer to Colonia del Sacramento for an overnight stay set in a restored Portuguese house overlooking the river and steps from the historic old town. In the afternoon, discover Colonia’s rich history on a guided city tour through its UNESCO-listed quarter, founded in 1680. Stroll cobbled lanes lined with colonial buildings, quaint shops, and leafy squares in this picturesque riverside town.

Days 6-9 Carape Mountains
Travel from Carmelo to the Carape Mountains, pausing near Montevideo for a tour, tasting, and lunch at Bodega Bouza, renowned for sustainability and organic-minded practices. Continue to the Sacromonte Landscape Hotel, a design-forward retreat in the hills outside Punta del Este, surrounded by vineyards and native woodland. Settle into your sleek pavilion with panoramic views, then spend the following days exploring Sacromonte’s estate: guided walks through the vines, scenic hiking trails, and a winery tour with lunch included showcasing terroir-driven wines and seasonal cuisine.
Venturing further afield, enjoy a full-day visit to Bodega Garzón, one of Uruguay’s flagship wineries. After an in-depth tour and tasting, sit down to lunch at Francis Mallmann’s celebrated restaurant, where open-fire techniques elevate local produce and complement Garzón’s award-winning tannat and varietals. Back at Sacromonte, unwind with sunset tastings, private deck time, and optional hikes among granite outcrops and rolling valleys. Evenings can be spent savouring contemporary Uruguayan dishes and carefully curated pairings, or simply stargazing in the tranquil mountain air.
Across these four days, the focus is on thoughtful viticulture, expressive wines, and the serene landscapes that define Uruguay’s emerging fine-wine scene.

Day 10-11 Punta del Este - UK
Punta del Este is a chic coastal resort town known for its pristine beaches and relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere. Enjoy a morning tour of Playa Mansa and Playa Brava, then pass through elegant districts such as San Rafael and Beverly Hills. Continue to Punta Ballena for sweeping coastal views before visiting Casapueblo, the former home of artist Carlos Páez Vilaró, now a museum and gallery celebrating his life and work.
With lovely white sand beaches, vibrant gastronomy, lively nightlife and a renowned art scene, Punta del Este offers the perfect relaxing end to your holiday to Uruguay. Speak to your Travel Specialist to extend your stay here.
