Experience Highlights of Paraguay, Uruguay & Argentina

This journey links three contrasting countries, offering a rich exploration of culture, history and landscapes as you travel from Paraguay through Argentina to Uruguay. Beginning in Asunción, the route moves beyond the capital into the countryside, where time spent at a traditional estancia provides insight into rural life and long-standing traditions. Visits to the Jesuit ruins of Trinidad del Paraná and Jesús de Tavarangué reveal an important chapter of the region’s history, before the journey continues east to the natural spectacle of Monday Falls and the impressive scale of the Itaipú Dam.

Crossing into Argentina, the focus turns to one of Latin America’s most powerful natural sights at Iguazú Falls. Here, vast cascades surge through subtropical rainforest, offering a dramatic contrast to the quieter rural landscapes experienced earlier. From the falls, the journey continues south to Buenos Aires, where a couple of nights allow time to explore the city’s historic neighbourhoods, cultural life and distinctive atmosphere.

The final stage crosses the Río de la Plata into Uruguay, beginning in the UNESCO-listed town of Colonia del Sacramento. Time here is complemented by visits to wineries in Carmelo, where Uruguay’s wine culture comes into focus. The itinerary concludes in Montevideo, a cosmopolitan capital shaped by coastal scenery, historic quarters and a relaxed pace of life, providing a fitting end to a journey defined by variety and discovery.
