Launching in 2025, Douglas Mawson is the newest addition to the AE Expeditions fleet, completing a trio of purpose-built ships that have helped redefine small-ship expedition cruising. Alongside The Greg Mortimer and The Sylvia Earle, it offers a consistent, high-quality experience rooted in exploration, comfort and sustainability.
Named after the legendary Australian geologist and explorer, the ship reflects a spirit of discovery and innovation. Designed with the revolutionary Ulstein X-Bow, it delivers a smoother and quieter journey, even in challenging polar conditions. With a maximum of around 130 guests, the onboard atmosphere remains relaxed and intimate, while also offering one of the widest selections of staterooms in the fleet, including dedicated single cabins.
Life onboard is designed to be both social and enriching. After a day of exploration, guests can unwind on the aft deck in the heated outdoor pool or relax in one of the jacuzzis. There is a well-equipped gym and sauna for those looking to recharge, as well as a dedicated Citizen Science Centre where you can engage more deeply with the environments you are exploring.
Dining is a highlight, with two restaurants offering a choice of settings to enjoy freshly prepared meals. Throughout the ship, multiple observation areas provide excellent vantage points for spotting wildlife and taking in the ever-changing polar landscapes, ensuring you remain connected to your surroundings at every stage of the journey.
