Aurora Expeditions Greg Mortimer Ship

The Greg Mortimer, an AE Expeditions ship

Set sail aboard The Greg Mortimer, an exceptional choice for travellers seeking a refined expedition experience with a strong focus on polar exploration. Enjoy comfortable, thoughtfully designed accommodation, expert-led excursions, and close encounters with the remarkable landscapes and wildlife of Antarctica.

A modern expedition ship offering comfort, space and expert-led exploration in Antarctica

Named after the pioneering Australian explorer and company founder, The Greg Mortimer is a 104-metre expedition vessel purpose-built for polar travel and operated by AE Expeditions, a leader in small-ship exploration. Its advanced X-Bow design cuts smoothly through waves, reducing motion and delivering a more comfortable journey across Antarctic waters.

Carrying an average of just 130 guests, The Greg Mortimer is one of the smallest ships in expedition cruising, creating a genuinely intimate and immersive experience. This smaller size also allows for more time ashore and easier access to remote landing sites. Alongside her sister ships, Sylvia Earle and Douglas Mawson, AE Expeditions offers a consistent standard of expertly led, small-group exploration.

All staterooms are thoughtfully designed with private bathrooms, flexible twin or double bed configurations, ample storage, and international power outlets. Daily cabin service is included, along with a range of practical amenities. Selected cabins feature floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies, offering uninterrupted views of the passing landscapes.

Onboard, there are several purpose-built observation areas, including a spacious indoor lounge with 180-degree views, a full 360-degree open deck, and two hydraulic viewing platforms positioned close to the waterline for a unique perspective.

Dining takes place in a generous restaurant with a relaxed, sociable atmosphere, while two stylish bars and lounges with expansive windows provide inviting spaces to unwind. Additional facilities include a well-stocked library, a dedicated mudroom for expedition gear, and a wellness centre complete with gym equipment, sauna, and spa, ideal for relaxing after a day of exploration.
