What makes Pacuare one of Costa Rica’s most thrilling destinations for adventure lovers?
Pacuare was unlike anywhere I’ve ever been. The adventure kicked off with rafting in on the Pacuare River, crashing through rapids and winding through deep jungle canyons it was the most exhilarating way to arrive anywhere. After the raft, we had a briefing of what are days were going to look like, we then stepped into Linda Vista Villa and honestly my jaw dropped. Perched high above the river, it had sweeping rainforest views, an open-air design, a private plunge pool, and an outdoor shower where I could hear the jungle come alive!!! I am sure you could hear my scream through the rainforest how excited I was! (ask Nicole).
The days were filled with adrenaline zip-lining over the canopy, rappelling down waterfalls, and going through nature into the night to spot the wildlife that was hidden.
One of the most surreal moments was the treetop dining experience with my everyone. We were suspended high above the jungle floor, surrounded by nothing but rainforest and the sound of the wildlife that was around us.

How do you get to Pacuare, and why is the journey part of the adventure?
The journey into Pacuare is with a white-water raft which is the most unique and thrilling way into any lodge – starts off the adventure before arriving into the main show!
Getting to Pacuare Lodge isn’t your typical check-in process. It’s not just a journey it’s the first adrenaline hit of your rainforest adventure. And honestly? It might be the coolest arrival experience I’ve ever had.
Was I nervous about rafting in? Absolutely. I was practically vibrating with fear. Rapids? Wild jungle rivers? What did I sign up for? But the second we launched onto the water… that fear turned into pure exhilaration. After landing in San José and spending a night to reset, the next morning starts with a scenic drive through the lush Costa Rican countryside rolling green hills, coffee fields, volcano views. Then, just when it starts to feel like something out of a nature documentary, you arrive at this totally unassuming launch point near Turrialba and that’s when the real fun begins.
Because here’s the wild part: you raft into the jungle to get to the lodge. Seriously. No roads. No tour buses. You throw on your life jacket, grab your paddle, hop into a raft, and ride the Pacuare River straight into the heart of the rainforest.
The river winds through steep jungle canyons, with towering cliffs, waterfalls spilling into turquoise pools, and vines so thick they look like they’re holding up the sky. You bounce over Class II–III rapids, your heart pounding as the raft surges forward then suddenly you're gliding through calm, misty stretches where the only sound is birdsong and the rush of water over rock. And the wildlife? Unbelievable. Toucans, butterflies the size of your hand, monkeys leaping through the canopy they’re all out there, watching as you pass through their world.
Your bags? Don’t worry they are taken by road separately with the staff, dry and protected, so you’re free to live fully in the moment. No phones. No distractions. Just you, the river, and nature! Then after that pulse-racing, soul-awakening ride you round a bend and see it: Pacuare Lodge, hidden like a secret among the trees.
You don’t just arrive at Pacuare. You earn it.You step out of the raft and onto the riverbank, you’re not just in a new place you’re deep in a wild, untouched world that feels completely removed from anything familiar. The jungle is all around you. The air smells of moss and flowers and rain. And there’s this powerful, quiet moment where you realise: you’re in it now.
The journey in doesn’t just set the tone it cracks the door open to something bigger, deeper, and unforgettable. So, if you're even a little bit nervous like I was? Good. That means it’s going to be epic.
It’s a place you arrive in, heart racing and eyes wide open.

What wildlife can you spot in the Pacuare rainforest?
In the Pacuare rainforest, we encountered an incredible variety of wildlife. We saw a range of insects, snakes, and spiders, and heard the distinctive calls of howler monkeys echoing through the trees. Colourful toucans perched overhead, while tiny glass frogs clung to leaves, their translucent bodies a marvel of nature. This mix of sights and sounds showcased the rich biodiversity of the rainforest and made our visit truly unforgettable.
