Whether you are a complete beginner or an expert in the Tango, Argentina is most certainly the place to go to learn or enhance your skills. As the home of the Tango, Buenos Aires is the recommended base to take advantage of the myriad of tango schools, milongas and tango themed hotels, restaurants and cafes.
It takes two to tango... and of course a good teacher! Add in one or as many lessons as you like during your Tango Holiday to Argentina. Latin Routes can organise private or group lessons for you, whether you are a single traveller or have a partner to tango with, so if you want to learn or improve your tango, we suggest this is a great way to do so!
Learn the basic steps of this mesmerising dance with its sensuous moves and gestures, listen to the beat and get the feel for the alternating quick and slow steps to the seductive embrace known as the Abrazo orTango Lean. Learn to Walk, Rock, Stroll and Chase and soon you will be tangoing the night away! Alternatively, if you are an experienced tanguera, enhance your skill set with our professional schools and teachers .
Unlike the professional shows and tango lessons, the Milonga is designed for those people who have a basic knowledge of Tango steps. These Tango Halls are located all over the city and your Latin Routes specialist can advise you of where to go, either with a guide or purely to experience the Milonga independently in your own time. The basic rules are that men invite women up to dance. It is a hugely popular social event and we recommend that you incorporate at least one Milonga visit during your tango holiday to Argentina as they are always full of locals and gives you a truly authentic experience.
Enjoy a typically Argentine first-class meal, be it the traditional steak, chicken or Patagonian lamb accompanied with a mouth-watering array of vegetables and salads as well as any of a number of excellent pasta dishes and desert, all accompanied with the finest Argentinian wines. Once you have finished or if you opt for a Show only, settle down for a two-hour show which includes some of the best-loved songs, music and dances performed by skilled musicians and dancers. Most of the shows are located in the San Telmo or Microcentro districts of Buenos Aires, but your Latin Routes specialist can help you decide on the right one for you, depending on the size of the show and their personal recommendations.
For an authentic and cheaper alternative to a Tango Show, take a stroll down some of the main areas in Buenos Aires, for example Calle Florida, San Telmo and Boca. Here you will see that the old tradition of practicing street Tango is still rife today. Dressed in traditional attire, you will witness street performers strutting their stuff to locals and tourists alike.
