It’s that time of year again, and the biggest party on Earth is set to kick off on Feburary 28th.

Dancing, samba, fireworks, music and excitement are all integral parts of what makes Carnival in Rio de Janeiroone of the most spectacular events on the planet. As one of the most-visited places in the Southern Hemisphere, you would be forgiven for wanting to spend more than just a few days in this beautiful city. A bustling metropolis, Rio is famed for both its diversity and its energy – from the many bars and restaurants that line the Copacabana to the samba schools packed with locals and visitors alike, there is never a dull moment in this thriving city.

Christ the Redeemer2The Corcovado

Rio’s skyline is likely the most recognisable in all of South America. Atop Corcovado Mountain sits the world-famous statue of Christ the Redeemer, arms outstretched. Surely one of the most-photographed monuments in the world, the statue itself stands 30m tall, overlooking the bustling mass of the city below. It is often under restoration, having been severely eroded by harsh winds and rain, in addition to being struck by lightning multiple times.

Rio is also renowned for its stunning beaches. The Copacabana is an exceptionally popular tourist destination and attracts millions of people each year to its shores. At 4km long, the Copacabana is home to hundreds of buzzing bars and restaurants for you to explore.

If you’re looking for water sports and luxury, then Barra da Tijuca’s beach is the place for you. At over 17 and a half kilometres, this beach covers a huge stretch of coastline with beautiful white sand. Furthermore, it will be playing host to the Olympics in 2016, where athletes will compete in a variety of sports just off the coast.
