When Do You Want To Go?
Jessica's love for Latin America was sparked initially at Cardiff University whilst studying for a degree in Spanish and Italian Language. Plagued with the travel bug since a young age, she wanted to venture further and so then travelled extensively through South America during this period. Subjects shrewdly chosen for the year abroad, she spent part of her sabbatical year abroad, living, and working in an orphanage in Cordoba, Argentina. It was then, that her fascination and appreciation for Latin America began and continues to do so to this day.
After graduating, Jessica went to work for a large travel company and gained considerable experience in the travel industry. Her continual interest and passion for Latin America brought her to co-found Latin Routes in 2012, and since then the company has gone from strength-to-strength and developed into one of the UK's leading operators to this magical part of the world.
She hopes one day, to retire to Argentina and sees herself sipping Argentinian wine and tucking into a delicious ‘asado’ from her Estancia in the countryside. “Whether it is to taste the finest steaks in the world or to sip tantalising wines of the famous wine regions, to visit the world famous Iguazu Falls, or be blown away by the colossal Perito Moreno Glacier, I can guarantee that wherever you go or whatever you choose to do in Argentina, you will gain a new appreciation for the country and meet some of the most humble people you will ever come across."
It’s a tough call as there are so many beautiful places in Argentina and the country is so diverse in its landscape. However, my favourite destination is the Andean Northwest and the Salta region. The best way to explore is by car and I would recommend doing a self-drive route. I was astounded by the scenery on the drive- One minute you are driving through the magnificent red cliff mountains, the next through vineyards and barren hills laden with Cacti with the most spectacular views you can imagine. Not many people know this area and it is a prime example of how Argentina never disappoints. I really consider the Andean Northwest to be Argentinas hidden gem.
Although I usually favour a more rustic Argentinian lodge, I couldn’t help but love the Faena in the Puerto Madero area of Buenos Aires. It really has the WOW factor! Its attention to detail and stylish interior does not fail to impress from the moment you walk in the door right through the hotel to the grand décor of the individual rooms. Its library bar is my favourite room as it exerts an air of class but has an authentic traditional feel, and has become one of the most popular venues to socialise on a weekend, with a real buzz. I love the Faenas style and elegant features but the fact that it does not feel pretentious makes it a particular winner in my eyes. You have to love a spot of luxury every once in a while!
