New adventures usually start at the airport and this one is no different. You will be met at Iquitos International airport just before taking a lovely drive through the Peruvian countryside. Observe how the green on the ground blends perfectly with the blue sky; relax and prepare yourself for the great adventures ahead. Next stop is the Nauta lounge where lunch will be served. Take some to chat and get to know the people around you. The afternoon will be dedicated to a small skiff excursion where you will be taken to Amazon's birthplace and at 6 PM you will board the Aria Amazon. The vessel is very well proportioned and the crew is extremely friendly so you are certain to feel at home here. After getting acquainted with the ship a safety drill will follow, after which you will enjoy a fantastic gastronomic experience provided by the famous the Executive Chef on board, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.
Continue exploring the Amazon as you are taken to a little skiff expedition through the Ucayali river. This river together with three other rivers is considered the main headwater of the Amazon River and therefore extremely important in this region. The Pucallpa city is also known for being located on the banks of this river. As the farmers and fisherman go about their business you can look out for the famous pink dolphins that inhabit this region. Make sure to keep your camera close as you will want to capture this unique moment. Later on, it will be time to cruise along the Pacaya River at dusk. Pay close attention to your surroundings so that you can fully experience the rich Amazonian wildlife that comes out after dark.
You will start the day early, accompanied by the first sun rays. As you enjoy a breakfast picnic you will witness the variety of sounds that one can hear so early in the morning. After your nutritious breakfast, you will have plenty of energy for what's to follow. Try fishing along the black waters of the Pacaya River, and after lunch go on another skiff adventure on the Ucayali River alongside the banana boats. These rather peculiar boats usually head to Requena while transporting products from the jungle. If you are lucky you spot some pink dolphins again!
This morning will be dedicated to the black waters of the Yarapa or Clavero rivers. There's plenty of activities to explore here. You can try going on a jungle walk, doing some canoeing, kayaking or simply swimming. What do you think about viewing some giant water lilies? This is what you will be doing in the afternoon as you take a short jungle walk in the San Jose flooded forest. After a full day outside return to the Aria Amazon and enjoy the most delicious dinner. Take some time to share your experiences with other guest and get to know the crew members better as you are introduced to some that you might not have met yet. Spend the rest of the evening stargazing and enjoying the quietude of this region.
Start the day with a short Nauta visit, where you will visit their fresh market. You will be doing this with Aria Amazon guides so make sure to ask all questions you might have as the Aria guide are able to identify any of the days catch by the fisherman as well as the region's exotic fruits. This area is also known for having a fantastic Manatees Rescue Centre that makes sure that these animals are being protected. You will have the opportunity to visit the centre and see first-hand the incredible work that is done here. Lastly, head to the San Juan craft market while on route to the airport. Say goodbye to Amazon, for the moment, but never to the memories you have made here.
You can enjoy an Aria Amazon cruise as part of your holiday to Peru.
