This adventure begins in Iquitos, after your arrival at the Iquitos International airport. This city is known for being the largest settlement in the Peruvian Amazon. It is also the sixth most populous city in the country. After arriving, you will drive through the beautiful Peruvian countryside on your way to the Nauta lounge. This is the perfect time to relax and breath in the fresh Peruvian air while appreciating the stunning scenery this region has to offer. The afternoon you will dedicate to your first skiff excursion, which will take you to Amazon's birthplace just before you embark on the Aria Amazon cruise, at 6 PM. Once inside the vessel settle in your new home for the holiday and get ready for the first activities on board - routine safety drill, introduction to the naturalist guides, and a tasty experience of the unique Amazonian cuisine created by Lima's highly acclaimed Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.
The adventure continues on the cruise, as you enter the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. This vast area of pristine Amazonian jungle is located in north-eastern Peru and bordered by the Maranon and Ucayali rivers. You will be cruising the Yanayacu Pucate which is one of the lakes in this reserve. There are countless stunning pictures of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, but nothing beats the experience of seeing the Peruvian Amazon in person. Kayaking, canoeing and swimming are all available but you can also relax on the boat, should you prefer. There is also a high chance of spotting pink dolphins, so as you can see, excitement is never scarce on this trip. In the afternoon you will be able to visit a remote village along the Maranon river which is the principal mainstem source of the Amazon River. Get ready to learn more about the traditional customs in this village as well as getting in touch with an overall different culture. Later on, you can also use the hi-tech telescope available on board and be mesmerised by the beautiful Peruvian night sky.
Kick-start the day with an excursion along the Samiria River, there is also the option to go fishing. Keep your camera close and make sure to capture the beautiful green tree reflections on the dense water, just before you go on another adventure, this time, an exciting jungle walk to suspended bridges in the Amazon rainforest – quite thrilling! In the evening you will be sailing along the “Enchanted Lake”. Take a moment and acknowledge the beauty around you, all unique in its sounds, shapes, and colours. After dinner, you will have another opportunity to get to know the Aria Amazon family, as you will be officially introduced to some other crew members.
Spend the morning in Nauta town where you will visit a local fresh market. If you love freshly caught fish this place is for you. But fish is not the only tasty food on this market, you will also see lots of colourful, exotic fresh fruits, and if you any questions about what you see, ask the guides as they are very knowledgeable on the products available on the market. After this little stroll in Nauta, head back to the Aria ship where breakfast awaits. As this is the last day on board, take some minutes to pack your suitcase, but don't be sad because there will be a couple more activities before saying farewell. Are you an animal lover? Then you will love this visit to the Manatee Rescue Centre, which is a centre that rehabilitates Amazonian manatees and releases them back into the wild. Finally, you will be taken to explore the San Juan craft market on your route to the airport before saying your goodbyes to this enchanting wilderness.
