Day 1 Ushuaia

Check in at San Martin 409, Ushuaia, between 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and board your ship ready for your Patagonian adventure. The captain and crew give a welcome cocktail reception on board, and then the ship departs for the journey through one of the most captivating wilderness regions in the world.

Day 2: Cape Horn & Wulaia Bay

You will sail through the Murray Channel and Nassau Bay to reach Cape Horn National Park, where you'll disembark (weather permitting). The mythical Cape Horn was discovered in 1616, and it is a sheer, 425-meter (1,394-foot) high rocky promontory.

For many years it was an important navigation route between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, and it is known as the “End of the Earth”. The park was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in June 2005.

In the afternoon, you'll go ashore at historic Wulaia Bay, once the site of one of the region’s largest Yamana aboriginal settlements. Charles Darwin landed here on January 23rd, 1833, during the voyage of the HMS Beagle. This area is also renowned for the mesmerising beauty of its vegetation and geography. You will walk through a Magellanic forest of Lengas, Coihues, Canelos, ferns, and other native vegetation to reach a look-out point.

Since early November 2011, Cruceros Australis have been doing kayaking activities in Wulaia Bays run by an experienced explorer, Cristián Donoso, supported by the expedition guides. The activity includes paddling through historic areas related to the native Yagan people, bird watching, as well as the pure joy of paddling. The kayaking activity has an approximate cost of US$ 120, with a duration of 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the water.

Day 3: Pía Glacier & Garibaldi Glacier

In the morning you will enter Pia Fjord and board on the Zodiacs for a shore excursion to Pia Glacier. You will take a very nice short hike so that you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the impressive glacier.

Later on and already making way further west along the Beagle Channel you will be able to enter another long fjord as the ship will anchor near Garibaldi Glacier for another shore excursion. Garibaldi is especially interesting as it is one of the only three glaciers in Patagonia that still gain mass rather than losing it.

On this hike, you can expect a Magellanic forest, a glacier waterfall, a towering wall of ferns and moss as well as truly spectacular viewpoints looking down on the glacier and fjord.

Day 4: Agostini Sound, Águila Glacier & Cóndor Glacier

You will start your fourth day at sea by entering Agostini Sound where you can view the stunning glaciers that descend from the middle of the Darwin Mountain Range, some of them even reaching the water.

After disembarking a very pleasant walk around a lagoon will follow which was formed by the melting of the Águila Glacier. You will reach a spot right in front of that glacier with stunning views.

The afternoon will be reserved for approaching the Condor Glacier via Zodiac and hopefully see some of the abundant Andean Condors in the area.

Day 4: Magdalena Island & Punta Arenas

Early in the morning you go ashore on Magdalena Island (weather permitting). Located in the Strait of Magellan, it was an essential source of supplies for navigators and explorers in the past.

The island is inhabited by an immense colony of Magellanic Penguins which can be sighted during your walk to a lighthouse, which guides ships on their way through the strait. In September and April this excursion is replaced by a Zodiac boat ride at Marta Island to observe sea lions. After your visit, you sail to Punta Arenas, disembarking at 11:30 a.m.
