A luxurious trip through the Peruvian Highlands
The Belmond Andean Explorer is an overnight luxury sleeper train that began operating in 2017. The train runs between Cusco, Lake Titicaca and Arequipa. Its route from Cusco to Puno is known as “The Spirit of The Water” a metaphor for its destination of Lake Titicaca - where traditional floating reed islands are inhabited by colourful indigenous peoples.
The journey includes plenty of little surprises that are sure to exceed the expectations of even the most seasoned of travellers. Look forward to a champagne reception and a performance by an Andean Huayno dance group. The train has capacity for 48 travellers and includes 16 carriages, making for an intimate luxury experience. The interior décor is beautifully inspired by traditional Incan colours as well as the heritage of the Andean region, this journey is filled with wonders that come from both inside and outside the train.
There are two dining cars, a lounge car, a spa car and an observation car with an open-air deck for viewing the scenery. The meals are fresh and colourful, consisting of seasonal dishes cooked with locally sourced ingredients from the Peruvian Andes. You will have your own cabin with private en-suite shower room. You can choose between, twin, bunk or double bed setups.
Other highlights of this luxurious experience include small details such as; staff greeting each traveller by name and attending to your needs without fuss. Be sure to sample the Pisco sours - a refreshing Peruvian cocktail of Pisco liquor, lime juice, egg white, syrup and Angostura bitters.
