The fly fishing industry in Chile and Argentina has exploded, with fly fishing equipment being readily available for as little as £60 – making it even easier to get started. Specialised lodges and hotels now cater for this demand, and an influx of tourists has led both Chile and Argentina to garner international renown for their sport fishing spots.

Chile is renowned for some of the best Trout and Salmon fishing in South America, with Brown Sea Trout in Tierra del Fuego are often as big as 9kg.

Tierra del Fuego remains one of the most widely-known areas for fly fishing in South America. This strip of land extends downward from the very tip of Argentina and Chile into the Straight of Magellan. It initially gained fame for its oil production, but tourism has since become a major industry. With this growth, hotels began to cater for fishing-specific holidays to Argentina and many now operate exclusively within this framework.

Ushuaia, the capital city of the biggest island on the peninsula, has some especially good hotels, which also provide a range of other benefits, including proximity to ski resorts and great transport links if you are looking to extend your holiday to Argentina beyond just fishing. The Alto Andito Urban Lodge is a fantastic place to stay, it being one of the more luxurious 4* hotels in Ushuaia.

With 360 degree panoramic views of Ushuaia (which is particularly spectacular when lit up at night), the hotel offers both great value for money, and added hints of luxury which will make your stay a memorable one. Rooms on offer come in two categories – suites and apartments. Suites cater for 1-2 people and some include a hot tub for relaxing after a long day’s fishing. Apartments are designed for 3-4 people, ideal if you are travelling with your family or a group of friends.

Whether you’re an experienced fisherman or just looking to try it out, Argentina is one of the most interesting a beautiful destinations you could choose.
