You will fly overnight from London Heathrow to San José Airport.
The next day, a private transfer will be waiting for you from San José Airport (also known as Juan Santamaria International Airport) to Heredia province.
This province of Costa Rica has a lot to offer, from protected national resources to rescued animals. You can also admire the remarkable Barva Volcano and coffee plantations in the area, which is one of the best coffees in the world. Heredia, its capital, is rich in culture and history. Share with locals and wander around in the so-called "City of Flowers".
Head out to Tapada, the Northern Region close to the Nicaragua border and San Juan river. The economy of the isolated region is focused on Agriculture such as pineapple production. Furthermore, the beautiful area is home of many birdlife species. You can spot the Great Green macaw and the Scarlet macaw. Other species can be found in the rainforest, including toucans, oropendolas, honeycreepers, tanagers, chestnut-bellied Herons and much more.
Your next trip will bring you to Sarapiqui, the tenth canton in the province of Heredia and an economy focused on plantations and cattle. The area has preserved an untouched wilderness, so you can find a lot of fauna species. A biological station offers a tour for those who wish to improve their knowledge of the area. Naturalist guides will escort you and make sure you do not miss anything!
A private transportation will drive you to San Gerardo de Dota, located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. The area has preserved a rich and unique diversity as it is part of the enigmatic cloud forest and highly recommended for birdwatchers. In fact, the area has more than 170 species and it will be possible to visit Los Quetzales National Park, where you will have the opportunity to admire the resplendent Quetzal bird.
The next destination is Golfo Dulce, a gulf in Costa Rica located in the South of the Province of Puntarenas. The area has many places and attractions that you can discover once you get there. Birdwatchers will be thrilled to know that the Osa Peninsula, which is in the area, is known as one of the world’s best birding destinations. Indeed, it is home of 400 bird species (almost half of Costa Rica species). There, the majestic white Hawk, the spectacular hummingbird White Crested Coquette or the popular Toucans can be spotted, so be on the lookout!
You will take a domestic flight from Jimenez airstrip to San José. From there, you will get on an overnight flight back to the UK.
