Alex and Carrie Vik fell in love with Jose Ignacio, Uruguay over two decades ago and decided to create a destination that would bring together its rustic and ocean-side location, as well as local and international contemporary artists. Their dream came true in 2009 when they inaugurated Estancia Vik. The property sits on 4,000 acres in the rolling countryside of Jose Ignacio, Uruguay. The Estancia borders the Jose Ignacio Stream and Lagoon, which meet the Southern Atlantic just two kilometres away. This is the towns first luxury guest estancia with 12 exclusive suites featuring installations by Uruguayan artists. Big names, including sculptor Pablo Atchugarry and painter Clever Lara, have work in the public spaces.
The Spanish colonial-style building is a 50,000 square foot structure designed by Marcelo Daglio and the owners. The traditional estancia features white adobe walls and red tin roofs with covered walkways linking multiple outdoor courtyards and idyllic gardens. The expansive patios feature outdoor seating areas, sculpture installations, respites from the sun and a large herb garden. The south side of the Estancia boasts a large grass covered garden and 20 metre pool made of Absolute Nero stone. The Estancias Spa features a floor area of over 100 square meters its facilities include male and female sauna rooms, a massage parlour, relax area, showers and yoga room.
"We love Estancia Vik in Uruguay and with amazing views, traditional architecture and amazing art it will be easy for you to fall in love with it too. We would say that some of the artwork, including some in the bedrooms, is on the exotic side!"
