Sacha Lodge is located deep in the Ecuadorian rainforest via a two-hour canoe ride from the nearest airport in the Coca region. The lodge, within a 5000-acre ecological reserve, operates 3 or 4 night packages with exciting rainforest activities led by local Quechua guides. Sacha’s main house sits in front of a large freshwater lagoon and meals can be enjoyed outside on the decking, where guests can keep an eye out for the fascinating wildlife.
The 26 comfortable and spacious wooden cabins were constructed out of natural materials derived from the rainforest with the intention to preserve the immediate environment and are designed to make guests feel in harmony with their surroundings. Nestled into the forest, all rooms have thatched roofs, netted screens and shaded terraces to give guests all the privacy and comfort they require during their stay. Electricity is provided 24 hours a day and the private bathrooms provide hot showers and a view to the jungle outside. The lodge’s environmental focus even extends to the complementary biodegradable bathroom amenities.
For making the most of the jungle experience, all guests are offered rubber boots and rain ponchos to use during their stay, free of charge. English speaking guides are there to teach guests about the incredible flora and fauna that includes brightly coloured birds, interesting insects and inquisitive monkeys. Giant otters, caiman, piranhas and even sea lions are often sighted in the large lake in front of the lodge, which guests are welcome to take a dip in if they are brave enough! Sacha also boasts some brilliant standout features such as a canopy walkway, tree tower and butterfly farm – experiences not to be missed!
