When Do You Want To Go?

A spectacular wildlife experience that has its roots in sustainable tourism

The Napo Wildlife Centre is situated on the edge of a lake inside the remote Yasuni National Park, within the ancestral territory of the Añangu Quichua Community. After a two-and-a-half-hour boat ride along the mighty Napo River, guests are transported in paddle canoes along the black waters of Anangu Creek, while guides point out a variety of native creatures as the boat silently moves towards the lodge. The beautiful Añangucocha lake provides a stunning back-drop and exciting introduction to anyone’s stay at Napo Wildlife Centre.

Sustainability is at the forefront of the lodge’s operation and nowadays 50% of the profits are delivered directly to the Añangu community to help keep its unique cultural practices and beliefs intact. Napo manages to maintain and preserve over 82 square miles of Amazon rainforest in one of the most biodiverse areas in the world, which is of vital importance to future generations.

Most activity within the lodge itself occurs in the main hall, an open-air structure with a restaurant, bar, library and comfortable seating area. From here guests have 360 degree views of the lake and gardens, so as not to miss an opportunity to spot the exotic wildlife that inhabits the extensive grounds. The lodge’s twelve cabins all feature private balconies with forest or lake views, private bathrooms with hot water, ceiling fans, screened windows with mosquito nets, safety deposit boxes and 24/7 electricity.

Activities at NWC include climbing to the top of the 35 metre canopy observation tower, where guests can experience some of the best bird-watching in the world, spotting species that are near impossible to see from the ground. Visits to the parrot clay licks at dawn will surprise visitors by the sudden flash of colours erupting into the sky. A forest hike brings guests to the local Añangu Community where they can interact with the men, women and children and learn about their unique customs. Aside from their standard three and four night tours, Napo run a four night ‘Birding Tour’ and a special ‘Cultural and Adventure Tour’ for those looking for something a little different.
