An historical and traditional Patagonian estancia on the edge of Torres del Paine National Park

A rare opportunity to trek in the magical and famous Torres del Paine National Park during the day, and sleep not far from the entrance to the National Park at the majestic Estancia Cerro Guido, offering unprecedented views of the Patagonian steppe and the iconic peaks of the Torres del Paine.

With its location just 30 minutes' drive from the eastern entrance to the National Park at Laguna Amarga, Estancia Cerro Guido is the perfect place to stay if you want to participate in local activities, in particular horse riding and trekking as well as gain an insight into Patagonian life on a sheep farm.

The Estancia is located in the small settlement called Cerro Guido and has been converted into a comfortable and cosy guest house. Unlike many other lodges and estancias, it is still a working farm so guests can experience true Patagonian farm life.

With 15 tastefully decorated rooms it retains the traditional charm and elegance of an original ranch whilst blending modern amenities and service to offer a warm and inviting environment. Some of the rooms still have original fireplaces.

It has a small restaurant that also offers delicious cuisine and a selection of wine from the Matetic vineyard near Santiago.

Guests can choose from a wide range of activities during their stay. For example, guests can go horse riding around the Estancia Cerro Guido, go bird watching, or watch the sheep shearing, round ups, mustering and sheep dipping to experience a true working farm life.

  • Magnificent location among Patagonian steppe with views of the Torres del Paine

  • Plenty of activities, especially horse riding

  • Traditional Estancia charm throughout the building

  • Working farm which gives insight into Patagonian life

  • Better value than staying inside the Torres del Paine National Park,

In Our Opinion

"This small boutique estancia is great for a few days to experience life on a traditional ranch and explore the National Park and surrounding areas. Highly recommended if you like horse riding or are keen to try it."

The facilities are basic within the Estancia but it is more about the location and all the things that you can do in the surrounding area of the hotel. Facilities include;

  • Parking

  • Restaurant

  • Bar

  • Vegetarian menu

  • Lunch by arrangement

  • Garden

  • Terrace

  • Guest lounge

  • WIFI internet

  • Guest computer

Estancia Cerro Guido is located at the foot of the Sierra Contreras, 30 minutes' drive east of the Laguna Amarga entrance to Torres del Paine National Park.

It's 104km (1 hour) north of Puerto Natales, and 4-5 hours' drive north of Punta Arenas. It's also about 5 hours' drive from El Calafate in Argentina, which makes an alternative gateway (the journey time is roughly the same as from Punta Arenas, the landscape is stunning, and you’ll find services and infrastructure better in El Calafate than in Punta Arenas).

The accommodation at Estancia Cerro Guido is split into 2 houses; The Administration House and the Owner's House, which were built as part of the original estancia in the 1920s. Both houses offer beautiful views over the steppe to the Torres del Paine.

The Administration House is a small understated  building, with a red tin pitched roof. It has 5 Standard Rooms which are all furnished in a traditional early 20th century cottage-style. They have charming polished wooden floors and homely touches which make the rooms inviting and warm. There is also an English style sitting room for guests to relax in, with floral textiles and painted in warm colours. They are also equipped with modern bathrooms.

The other guest house accommodates 10 superior rooms which are larger in size than in the Administration House and is called the Owner's House.  It has a  spacious central living room for guests to relax with a book in one of the comfy armchairs next to the wood stove.  Rooms have either a kingsize or twin beds, and most of the rooms also have a charming fireplace. The decor is the same, the main difference is the size of the rooms and the fireplaces.
