When Do You Want To Go?

Enjoy a circuit that offers natural wonders. We leave the urban area and as we take Route Nr. 7 past a rural region we come close to the mountains and the Rio Mendoza that leads to Potrerillos. From here we continue to Uspallata, enjoying a beautiful multicoloured landscape coming across a range of diverse tunnels. The road continues crossing Picheuta's historical Bridge and passing through small towns like Polvaredas, Punta de Vacas and Penitentes, the region's ski resort.

We then approach Puente del Inca, a natural arch that forms a bridge over the Vacas River, a tributary of the Mendoza River. Scientists speculate that interaction of extreme elements like ice and hot springs was involved in the original formation of this natural bridge. They suppose that in ancient times ice covered the river and acted as support for avalanches of snow, dust and rocks. So the dust over the ice covering the river would have served as a path for the sulphurous water and petrified the surface, so when the snow melted, the bridge remained by itself. Charles Darwin was one of the visitors to this natural marvel, and made some drawings of the bridge with great stalactites.

Mount Aconcagua (the highest South American peak) dominates the landscape as we continue to Las Cuevas Village and, weather permitting, the Cristo Redentor Monument. The Cristo Redentor of the Andes, at 4200 meters above sea level is a sculpture that rises about ten meters heigh. This is the first Monument built to International Peace between Argentina and Chile. It is an image of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, with his right foot on the globe and a cross in his left hand, watching and following the limiting line between Chile and Argentina. Here we enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch before returning to the city.
