The Belmond Hotel Das Cataratas is a beautiful Portuguese Colonial Residence that sits just moments from the Iguazu Falls on the Brazilian side of the border. Construction of the hotel began in 1939, but the hotel took 10 years to open its doors. In those days it was built as a luxury residence, but access to the Falls was so limited it had just 52 rooms. Today the hotel welcomes travellers from all over the world and has 193 beautiful rooms and suites. Now part of the Orient Express Hotel Chain, it underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2009 and the beautiful building was fully restored, making the most of the hotel's stunning location and character of the area.
Guests staying at Belmond Hotel Das Cataratas can walk to the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls in just a few minutes, and part of the hotel's location means you can have access to the Falls early in the morning and in the evening once the park is closed to other visitors. Watching Iguazu Falls disappear at sunset is a great expeience and one that would be exclusive to guests staying here.
The hotel itself is an oasis of calm with an atmosphere of lazy days spent on a veranda or under the sub tropical palms by the pool. Service here is second to none and whatever you need will be brought to you. The hotel has an excellent Spa where each of the treatments celebrates the grandeur of the Amazon, featuring an array of responsibly-harvested, sustainable ingredients direct from the lush rainforests of Brazil. For those that want to be a bit more active whilst on holiday, there are many activites in the natural oasis around the hotel including white water rafting, helicopter trips over the gorge and jungle treks to view amazing wildlife including colourful toucans and giant butterflies.
Belmond Hotel Das Cataratas has two restaurants, the Restaurante Itaipu which boasts an outside veranda looking over the Iguazu Falls and the Ipê Grill alongside the pool. International cuisine and local dishes are served in both restaurants with specialities that have been shaped by the eclectic population of the Iguazu region and its variety of culinary influences.
"A stunning hotel that blends Historic Colonial Architecture, the character of the area and a privileged location right by the Iguazu Falls. A great option that won't disappoint!"
