As you arrive at the Iquitos International airport, your journey officially begins. This Peruvian port city acts as a gateway to the jungle lodges and tribal villages. It's famous for its open-air street market as well as rustic stilt houses. Before anything else you will drive through the stunning Peruvian countryside till you arrive at the Nauta lounge. Look around as you drive through and see all the beauty in the surrounding Peruvian nature and enter a complete relaxation mode. Before embarking the Aria Amazon cruise at 6 PM you will do a skiff excursion When on board the Aria Amazon you will have time to first settle in and get acquainted with this fantastic ship. Later on, a routine safety drill will follow as well as an introduction to the naturalist guides. You will end the day with a gastronomic experience provided by the talented hands of the Executive Chef on board, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, who is also the owner of one of Lima's most famous restaurants.
The Yarapa River is the main star of the day. Enjoy the freeing atmosphere and pay close attention to the sounds and animals that inhabit this part of the Amazon rainforest. On board a comfortable skiff you might see colourful tropical songbirds, impressive black collared hawks or even adorable sloths. Have you ever tried fishing? This won't be an everyday type of fishing as you will be looking for one species of fish in particularly - piranhas! Ask the guides questions and hear their fantastic stories. - Nothing else makes time go faster (or piranhas appear quicker)! Another incredible experience will follow, in the evening, as you watch the sun setting on the ship. Later on try some magical stargazing on the black waters of Nauta Cano. Make a wish for each start you see!
Another day filled with sun, fun and no random activities. You will wake up to a delicious breakfast alongside the usual mouth-dropping views just before getting ready for another adventure. This time you will be taken out to a suspended bridges crossing, deep into the high Amazon rainforest. If you are still filled up with energy, later on, you can try swimming, canoeing or kayaking in the Yanayacu-Pucate lake. If you are lucky enough you might even stop a few pink dolphins, a lovely dolphin species that inhabit this area. Enjoy a relaxed evening with your usual delicious dinner, as well as some chatty time with the Aria Amazon crew members as you will be introduced to some that you might not have met yet. There will be time for stargazing, as usual, so don't be shy, and feel free to use the high-tech telescope on board.
Start the day early on in Nauta where you will be taken to visit a local fresh market. Here you will see lots of fresh and exotic fruits, as well as freshly caught fish. Nauta is the primary destination for accessing Iquitos and also a staging area for several ecotourism lodges and ships on the Maranon River. After spending some time in Nauta it's time for heading back to the Aria ship where breakfast awaits. Take some minutes to pack your suitcase just before heading to the Manatee Rescue Centre. This Centre does a fantastic rescuing, rehabilitated and ultimately realising them back into the wild. Unfortunately the Amazonian manatees an endangered species due to people hunting them for their meat as well as skin. These wonderful creatures live on the water their whole life and are even more impressive when seen up close as you will have the chance to see here. Last but not least, you will be taken to the San Juan craft market on your route to the airport.
